A trailblazer in his field, Steve Ferreira kickstarted his solopreneur journey by identifying key issues facing some of the world’s largest shippers. While working at an international shipping enterprise, he recognized that companies worldwide were paying for six-figure mistakes caused by billing errors. Having lived and worked abroad in both Europe and Asia, he was in a unique position to identify cultural and economic patterns in container shipping billing that other industry professionals could not. With as much as $5 billion lost per year due to rogue invoices, Steve’s detective work began. Despite initial doubts from fellow industry professionals, Steve’s resolve led him to develop and scale TradeCheck, an ocean freight auditing company that he sold to a NASDAQ traded company in 1997. Despite his windfall success, Steve’s entrepreneurial calling had only just begun. In 2005, he founded Ocean Audit Inc. While developing the new business model, Steve integrated a compensation system that enabled him to keep 50 percent of the lost working capital he recouped. He recognized that without his skills, financial and logistics professionals at even the world’s largest corporations wouldn’t be able to recover comparable sums. He was able to justify his business model as a result. Additionally, Steve’s creative application of AI enabled him to quickly delve through thousands of records, saving hours of manual data analysis in the process. Coupled with his charisma, Steve’s innovative mindset helped propel Ocean Audit to the forefront of the industry. Since beginning his solopreneur enterprise, Steve has worked with seventeen Fortune 100 companies. Today, Steve can be seen hosting FreightWaves TV’s “Navigate B2B”, a nationally televised show that he personally developed.
